SAN JUAN SOUTHERN PAIUTE TRIBAL COUNCIL CELEBRATES SUCCESSFUL TRIP TO WASHINGTON D.C. – SECURING FEDERAL SUPPORT FOR HISTORIC WATER RIGHTS SETTLEMENT AND RESERVATION RECOGNITION
Washington, D.C. – April 11, 2025
The San Juan Southern Paiute Tribal Council is proud to announce the success of a recent delegation to Washington, D.C., where Tribal leadership held strategic meetings with federal lawmakers from Arizona and Utah, as well as senior officials at the White House.
These meetings centered on advancing the Northeastern Arizona Indian Water Rights Settlement Agreement, a landmark legislation effort that will ratify a treaty establishing an exclusive reservation for the San Juan Southern Paiute people and affirm long-standing water rights and land rights.
The discussions in D.C. were not only productive but deeply encouraging. The Council received strong support from both Congress and the White House – proof that the Tribe’s voice is being heard, and rights are being recognized.
The trip marks a significant milestone in the Tribe’s journey toward securing its sovereign future. With bipartisan backing and federal alignment, momentum is building toward final passage of the Settlement Agreement, including ratification of the Tribe’s treaty establishing its exclusive reservation.
The Council commends the unity and vision demonstrated throughout the process and encourages Tribal Members to remain engaged and informed.
This is a proud and historic moment for the San Juan Southern Paiute people.
